Resume

Chris did his basic training and education by means of a thick sandwich course at UMIST, sponsored by Leyland Vehicles before making that well trodden move from truck design and development to nuclear engineering….
The draw was the combination of an inquisitive mind and the ability to interpret between true experts and general industry. UKAEA taught him to think and taught him to question.
During the mid 80s to mid 90s UKAEA, and its spin-off AEA Technology took many of the technical risk and reliability tools originated in the nuclear sector out to new clients. Chris, along with a handful of similar-minded individuals, had the good fortune to introduce risk based approaches to new clients and new industries. For Chris this included Defence, Rail, Aviation and Oil & Gas, alongside Nuclear. He was often given challenging clients or locations and enjoyed learning about the cultural differences that underlay the difficulties perceived by others.
By the mid to late 90s sector knowledge was as important as the techniques. Chris decided to slowly transition to Oil & Gas, eventually becoming full-time in the sector by moving to Atkins and then onwards, via Wood Group, to Chevron. The poacher had become gamekeeper and his style more firmly established as the interpretation and application of risk information to support decisions.
Chris then sought to maximise his impact inside Chevron by taking process safety and risk management skill to regions not familiar with the techniques. There, he simultaneously built local competencies while implementing the tools needed to better mange risks.
Chris left Chevron in early 2021, and established Risk Memory Ltd (Risk has no Memory) aimed to help his clients maximise their returns on investments in process safety and technical risk studies.  He does this by mapping processes and data flows in-place, identifying areas of strength as well as opportunities to improve; delivers leadership and decision-maker coaching in process safety; and works with existing teams on competency and development schemes.
Alongside Risk Memory Ltd, Chris seeks to hand-on his knowledge to the next generation via academia and professional institutions.
